Hibernating?

Damn, but I've been lazy about online stuff recently. Unfortunately, my lack of updates doesn't exactly signal a hugely packed and exciting social life, more just a desire to be lazy when I get home from work.

So, sorry about that - I'll start looking for memes right away.

Pretty much the only vaguely interesting things I've done have been reading Margaret Atwood's The Blind Assassin and watching Bearcub with Kriss at the weekend.

The first was good, if a bit of a slog at times - nicely plotted, beautifully observed but, ultimately, a little bit... uninvolving. Sort of like a wistful and distant Doug Coupland.

Bearcub, on the other hand, was a typically Spanish film - lashings of sun-drenched colours; rampant sexuality; mild farce and a couple of bits that made you think "are the Spanish really that odd?". And it led to a discussion with Tinka about the "Mull of Kintyre rule".

Incidentally, how is it that Spain is so staunchly Catholic, yet seemingly so liberal about its peoples' sexual proclivities? Also, it's still a constant source of wonder to me that foreign language films are so benevolently looked upon by the censors, whereas english language films are slapped with an R or 18 certificate if the expletives reach double figures. Case in point - Reservoir Dogs banned from video for years versus Man Bites Dog coming out uncut at exactly the same time, despite the Black and White Belgian film being ludicrously violent and darkly comic - far more than 'Dogs, certainly.
